A Night Under the Stars

This year my sister and I got to talking about birthday party ideas for my fiance and somehow came up with PROM! He wasnt too excited about celebrating his 29th birthday at prom, so we decided to just have a prom party for no reason at all! This has turned out to be one of the best ideas we have come up with, and will definitely become an annual event!!!

So, when I was looking at old prom pictures and themes, the one that stuck out most was, A Night Under the Stars.
I think I just wanted an excuse to buy a bunch of twinkly fairy lights!
Anywho, first thing on my list was to create an invitation!
Yes, I made invitations! It wouldn't be a "classy" event without them! hehe!

I had originally wanted to use a glittery background, but it was just too much, then I found this simple black background and knew it was PERFECT!! Along with the invitations, I sent a little card with "Extra Information" and "Attire Ideas". Just for a few ideas of what "formal prom attire" really meant, or what it could mean, I guess!

At first, I thought that mostly everyone would complain about having to go buy a new dress/tux for a dumb prom party, but mostly they all had something already. And for those that didn't I suggested going to the thrift stores around town, they always have treasures!! I wanted to find something amazing at a thrift store, but had no such luck! :(
But I went to Ross as a last resort and found this FABULOUS piece!!!

As far as decorations went for this party, I wanted to go ALL OUT!!! As soon as we had the date set, I was on eBay searching for deals on balloons, lights, streamers, crowns and anything else I could think of!!!! We had decided on, dark blue, silver and black as the color scheme, and I ended up buying over 300 balloons on eBay for about $24! To me that was an amazing deal! I was so excited!!!

We hung streamers and stars pretty much anywhere they would stick! And filled the patio with fairy lights!

We knew we wanted to take cheesy and awkward prom photos, so we HAD to make an awesome backdrop! I searched on Pinterest how to make an arch and was planning on just having a ton of balloons blown up everywhere!!! But when it came down to it, my arch turned into just columns and the "tons of balloons" idea got scratched, because I really didn't want to hear balloons popping all night
(yes, some of the guests attending would pop every loose balloon in sight! lol)
 

Looks a little janky, but it served its purpose!

After we set up and put the punch out (which i forgot to photograph! :( but was oh so delicious), and had a few cocktails, it was time for PICTURES!!!!! We took over 300 photos that night, but I will only bore you with a few!

Overall, this night was amazing and the perfect summer party! The boys complained a little about having to wear long sleeves and ties but they got over it once we started playing beer pong and flip cup (which the girls dominated over)!!

I can't wait to start planning next year's prom!!

The theme has already been decided as Under the Sea!!! Eeek! I can't wait!
